Forest School

As a nursery we love nothing more than being outdoors in all weathers! We have four very generous, individual outdoor spaces for our children to explore in, including our very own Forest School area.

Our Forest School sessions are run by two Level 3 Qualified Forest School Leaders, Miss Farnworth & Miss Pearson. Both staff members have also received Outdoor First Aid Training & have a Level 2 Food Hygiene qualification.

The sessions are all about children exploring their surroundings through child-led play. Children have the freedom in Forest School to explore, play, discover, take risks and learn within a natural outdoor setting.

Forest School offers children with the opportunity to achieve and develop their confidence and self-esteem through hands-on learning experiences in a natural environment. We are firm believers that children need a connection with nature in order to stay mentally balanced. Nature provides every learning opportunity our curriculum requires. Children harness the power of nature and use it to help them understand numeracy, literacy, science, working as part of a team, problem solving and so much more!

“The best classroom and the richest classroom is roofed only by the sky” - Margaret McMillan

Forest School offers learners the opportunity to take supported risks appropriate to the environment and to themselves. All activities are risk assessed however this does not eliminate the risk of harm or injury entirely. The activities are as safe as reasonably practicable to enable the learner to understand and mitigate the risk for themselves as they take part in an activity. During Forest School activities children work towards being safe and feeling confident in tool handling and learning to stay safe around the fire. Using tools is highly beneficial to children, they learn how to build trust with other children and adults, learn the responsibility of using tools safely whilst also learning life skills. Activities involving tools are carried out with full adult supervision and are appropriate the children’s age.
